Nowhere to Hide (Tundra Wolves Book 4) Read online

Marlo is an omega Tundra Wolf with the York Pack up in northern Alaska, but he is not like the other omegas. Marlo has a mind of his own and he likes to use it. He doesn’t sit around all day dreaming of an alpha coming along to claim and dominate him, or of becoming a slave to that alpha. Although Marlo does dream of a dominant mate, someone to master his body and his pleasure, he wants someone that will look at him as an equal. Marlo doesn’t want to be completely subservient to anyone. He is the assistant to his pack alpha and loves being independent. Marlo is proud that he is the only omega in the pack that has learned how to fight and take care of himself, but he fears the day an alpha comes along and puts a claim on him because surely that alpha, like almost all other alphas, would want an omega as they expect him to be, quiet, submissive, and basically their slave in all things.

Fane Heart is an alpha/beta who is on the run with his best friend Oberon. The two are running for their lives and need somewhere to hide, but neither can think of anywhere that they wouldn’t be found by their Vampire nest leader, Julius. With nowhere else to go, Fane thinks of his cousin Ridge, who is now the alpha to his family pack of Tundra Wolves up in the northernmost region of Alaska. As much as Fane never wanted to step foot in the tundra again because of his shame over something horrible that he had done when he was younger, Fane knows that to keep him and Oberon safe and alive, he needs to push down his pride and ask his cousin for help.

When Fane goes to live with the York Pack, a sister pack to his cousin, he thought it would be hard enough learning to live in such a dark, deserted, frozen wasteland, so finding his mate comes as a big shock and Fane has no idea what he is going to do. But when his omega mate takes one look at him then runs, Fane is not only confused but suddenly wants his mate.

Can Fane change Marlo’s mind before the little omega runs from him again, or will the threat against him rear its ugly head in the tundra and keep him from his mate for eternity?

As always with my Tundra Wolves Series, I want to give a big thanks to Master Black, Master Jeff, Jen, Mike G, Nick, and Master Mitch for all your help with the BDSM aspect of these stories. I hope I continue to do you proud with each book and bring some authenticity to the BDSM lifestyle even though a few things had to change because of the shifter aspect of these books. You have opened my eyes and have brought me a greater understanding of both a Dominant and a submissive, as well as BDSM as a whole. I am honored to call you all friends and so grateful for all of your kindness, openness, and help.

  PROLOGUE

“Come on you bunch of pussies! Raise your glasses and toast to my good fortune!”

“Now what is he babbling on about?” Fane mumbled as he lay back in the plush cushions, eyes closed, knees spread, and pants down around his ankles, as a pretty little redheaded twink knelt on the couch beside him, leaning over to suck his cock, ass in the air, while his best friend Oberon knelt behind the twink and fucked his ass.

“Some stupid shit about finding a true mate. Like that will ever happen,” Oberon replied as he continued to plow into the little vampire. “And if it did, I doubt the gods would smile down on Silvan with such a gift.”

“Shit, you’re right about that. He’s too damn psycho to even be allowed to have a boyfriend, forget a true one,” Fane grunted as he slid a hand through the twink’s hair and pulled his head down to his lap, then began to thrust up carefully.

“The Reckoning is coming and all you trolls are going to suffer, but I’ve been chosen by the gods to stay behind and carry on our race. Even Julius himself hasn’t found his true one, so when the Purge comes, you’ll all die or suffer and all this will be mine,” Silvan boasted as he raised a glass of the Scarlet Rhapsody he was drinking, then tossed its contents down his throat in one gulp.

“Doesn’t that stupid fuck know that shit will fry his brains?” Oberon asked.

“I think it already happened,” Fane replied.

“I thought Julius banned any clan member from drinking that shit?” His other friend Logan said from the chair he sat in across from Fane, he too relaxing with a twink attending to his cock.

“Yeah, he did, but you know Silvan doesn’t think the rules pertain to him, because he’s Julius’s second. What I’d like to know is if Julius is aware that his right-hand man and so-called best friend talks shit about him whenever he’s drunk on the crap?” Oberon asked.

They all grumbled their agreement. Fane tried to block out the loud-mouthed crazy vampire standing by the bar making a damn fool of himself and just focus on the wet mouth surrounding his cock. It had been a long fucking week and he really needed this release.

After going along with Julius as a guard when he met with the vampire clan from Columbia over some arms deal and have the damn DEA show up, Fane’s nerves were a bit frayed. How the hell the humans found out about their meeting was anyone's guess right now, but Fane knew Julius wasn’t stupid and was most likely already trying to find out. They had been lucky though, when he was able to slip behind a shack unnoticed, then shifted into his big-ass Tundra Wolf and pranced toward the agents. It was almost hysterical the way their faces twisted in terror on seeing his beast, and they began to slowly back up. As Fane had stalked closer to the men, pushing them back, it was just enough of a distraction for Julius and his contacts to disappear.

His clan leader had been very happy with his work and had rewarded him greatly by giving Fane this twink for a week to do with as he would. Well, except hurt the little cutie. That shit was just not allowed and anyone caught disrespecting one of Julius’s boys would suffer greatly.

Fane would never force himself on the little man, or anyone else for that matter, and when Tino showed up on his doorstep offering himself to Fane, he had immediately taken the man into his house and told him that he wouldn’t just use and abuse him, but he would allow him to stay for the week, because the man was a gift from Julius, and to not accept the generous gift would be considered an in
sult.

Tino had told him that he was happy to do whatever Fane wanted, but Fane still waited. He would never abuse anyone, or just use them, especially after that night so long ago, but for some strange reason, Fane suddenly wanted something more than just sex. He wanted to feel some kind of connection to another being. Something more meaningful than just another lay. Maybe it had something to do with hearing from his dads that his cousin, the great, can-do-no-wrong, Ridge Heart, had found his true mate and was now deliriously happy.

Asshole! Ridge was always the golden boy in their family. The one who did as he was expected and learned everything he could about taking care of the family businesses as well as his father's pack.

Wait a minute. Fane thought as his eyes popped open and he stared at the ceiling. True mate? Ridge had found his true mate, which was the rarest thing in their world. Shit, you could find where Jimmy Hoffa was actually buried and the truth behind JFK’s assassination before a paranormal could ever hope to find a true mate. But then again, Ridge was always the golden boy as he said, and it seemed his asshole cousin was still making out in this life.

“You’ll see! Mark my words. When the Purge comes, I’ll stand by smiling while I wave you all goodbye,” Silvan continued, but Fane was doing pretty good blocking the dipshit out. He closed his eyes again, relaxed back into the plush cushion, and enjoyed the attentions Tino was giving his cock.

“They’re all dead, man,” Oberon stated in a panic as he burst through Fane’s door before he could manage to get it fully open.

Fane stepped back and let his friend push past him, then closed the door and turned to look at Oberon. Fane was about to tell his friend to calm down and show some respect, but when he saw the wild look in the vampire’s eyes, Fane knew something was wrong and whatever it was, it wasn’t good. “What the hell’s going on, O?”

Oberon’s eyes widened as he ran around the room, looking under furniture and behind curtains, then turned to face him again. “They’re all gone, man. Dead. Every one of them is fucking dead. It’s just you and me left, Fane. We gotta get the hell out of Dodge and hide.”

“Hold on, wait just one minute, O. Calm down and tell me what’s going on?” Fane said calmly as he walked closer to his friend. He was being cautious and watching Oberon closely. The man looked like a wild, caged animal, trapped in the corner by a larger predator.

Oberon stopped moving around and came to stand in front of him, then whispered very low. “They’re watching. I know they are. I could feel their eyes on me when I was in the shower earlier. Someone broke into my place, man, and I was able to slip out the bedroom window before they noticed me. I left the shower on to try to distract them, but I know they’re out there looking for me. They’ll be coming for you too soon, Fane. We gotta get out of here.”

“Okay. Who's coming? What’s happening? Why would anyone come for us?”

Oberon grabbed the front of his shirt with both hands and fisted the material as he moved his head closer, his eyes wide with terror. “Silvan and Leader Julius. Everyone who was at the bar the other night, when Silvan was shooting his mouth off, is now dead. Everyone but us.”

“I don’t understand. Nothing happened at the bar to make Julius want us dead,” Fane argued.

“That’s what I was thinking too, man, but everyone who was there except for you, me, and Silvan, are dead. Even little Tino, Mario, and Lonny, and you know how much Julius cares for his boys. For him to have them killed, you know this shit is serious.”

Fane grabbed Oberon’s hands and pulled them from his shirt, then dropped them and stepped back. “It makes no sense. If those boys are dead, then it was one of Julius’s enemies not Julius who did it. He’ll be on the warpath. We should go see if he needs our assistance,” Fane said as he walked to a nearby table, snatched up his wallet, keys, and cell phone, then turned for the door.

“Are you out of your damn mind, man? You’ll be walking right into their hands. If you go out there, you’re a dead man, Fane. We gotta get out of here and find somewhere they’ll never look for us.”

“I love you like a brother, O, but I think you’ve been watching too many of those gangster movies, dude. If you’re chicken, then go hide somewhere, but it’s my job to keep this clan in order and our leader safe. If someone's out there killing our people, then Julius needs our help. I’ll catch you later,” Fane said as he pulled his door open and headed out.

“Fine! It’s your funeral! But if you survive and you find out I’m right, I’ll be where we first met. I think we’ll have a better chance out there together to watch each other’s backs, but I’ll only wait around twenty-four hours for you to show, and then I’m gone,” Oberon called out behind him as Fane walked down the hall, heading for the stairs.

He needed to find Julius and see what the hell was going on. Fane had no doubt that Oberon was telling him the truth and the others were dead, but his reasoning made no sense. Just because they had all been at the bar the other night, didn’t mean shit. They hung out there at least four days a week, and besides Tino blowing him good and long, nothing else happened.

As Fane headed down the hall, memories from the night at the bar came back to him of Silvan vomiting bullshit from his mouth about true mates and the rest of them going to suffer some shit or another because they didn’t have a true one. It was all just crap being thrown out there by some stupid asshole looking for attention like Silvan always did. Maybe word got back to Julius about the shit Silvan was saying about their leader, and Julius called him out on it and that little weasel blamed someone else. Now that Fane could believe.

He opened the door that led out into the courtyard of his apartment house and stopped dead when he heard them. Someone was across the way, moving slowly, cautiously. He could tell they were trying to be as quiet as possible. Fane quickly slid behind a trellis covered in thick vines in the shadows and slowed his breathing.

A few shuffled footfalls came closer, then he heard a whisper. Thank the gods for his enhanced shifter hearing. He could still make out every word being said.

“I should have just killed you for what you have done,” Julius said softly in a just barely there whisper, but Fane could hear him. He could also tell that his leader was pissed.

“But what about my mate, Julius? If you kill me who’ll be here to take care of him?” Silvan whined. The sound hurt Fane’s back teeth and he wanted to growl, but fought it back. The vampire was one of the biggest weasels he had ever met, and didn’t deserve to be Julius’s second. The bottom of the barrel maybe, but definitely not at the top. Fane had heard a story that it had something to do with Silvan’s father and a promise Julius made.

“You should have thought of your fucking mate when you opened your damn mouth and started telling everyone about the Reckoning and the Purge, you stupid fuck,” Julius hissed angrily.

Fane couldn’t see his face, but he had seen Julius when in this mood before, and it was scary as fuck, even to him. Julius was a very deadly vampire. Being one of the oldest of his kind, Julius had some strength that went beyond most paranormals, and the man wasn’t afraid to use it. Their clan leader was also extremely cunning and it wasn’t every day that someone got away with anything around his territory.

Now what the man was saying had Fane standing up straight as fear began to fill his veins. Fane remembered Silvan saying something about a reckoning and a purge and how they would all die because of it. Fuck, was what the man said true?

“You’ve broken the sacred blood oath you made to our gods and you’ll be punished when the Purge comes, but maybe I should put us all out of our misery and kill you now,” Julius threatened.

“No, Julius, please. I know I fucked up, but I don’t want anything happening to my mate. As I said, if we kill everyone who heard me, then the secret is still safe and me, and Cyrian will be okay and make it through the Purge,” Silvan begged.

“You don’t fucking deserve to make it. These are some of my best
people we’re talking about here. Who knows if one of them, maybe all, would have found their true mate too and would be saved. Now if I’m lucky to survive, all my toughest men will be gone and won’t be here to help this clan in the aftermath. Who knows how much time I have to start bringing in new people who I can trust? Men like Oberon and Fane. Tally and Monroe. They’re fucking beasts and would have been the best men in place to help this nest after the Purge. But no, your loud-mouthed sorry ass had to go and break the oath you took. Oberon managed to get away, but we can’t let Fane go. So, shut your trap and follow orders. Let’s go before we’re spotted,” Julius ordered, and Fane watched as the two snuck into the building through the door he had just come from.

He gave them a few minutes to reach the stairs, then took off at top speed toward the parking lot where his bike was parked. Fane quickly jumped on and started it up. He didn't even look around to see if cars were coming, he just popped it into gear and took off like the beasts of hell were chasing him. Oberon was right, they were coming for him and when they found him, he was a dead man, all because Silvan couldn’t keep his fucking mouth shut and Fane just happened to be in the bar when he did. Fuck! Where the hell was he going to go? Julius was a very powerful vampire and his reach was long. Very long. There was nowhere he could hide.

Ridge’s name crossed his mind and Fane groaned. No, not there. Anywhere but there. The last place he wanted to go was to the edge of the world and live in a frozen hell and have to deal with his perfect cousin. Fane ground his teeth, he knew it was the only place he could run and not be found by Julius. He knew he would be safe in the tundra. Well, at least from this threat he was now running from. Now all he had to do was get to Oberon and call Ridge to see if they could come. Damn it, he really didn’t want to ask the bastard for help, but at this point he had no damn choice. He just really wasn’t looking forward to Ridge’s smug face when he got there.
